A round-up of the Best Interior Designs from 2014

08 December 2014

As 2014 comes to a close, it feels like the prefect time to look back at what's been an amazing year for interior design. What has the interior world been up to? Lets take a look at some of the top trends from 2014.

The fashion world saw an outburst of texture in 2013 and this year it spread into the world of interior design. Mixing corduroy with leather or blending fur and satin adds depth to any interior. There’s also been a huge focus on rustic woods, interesting paint finishes and mixing materials over smooth flat finishes.

Adding texture has the ability to add both a powerful or subtle dimension to any room. Whether its matt or shiny, coarse or fine, rough or smooth – it looks like it's here to stay for 2015.

Interiors have become a lot more dramatic and glamorous too - with people getting braver with their designs. The plain lifeless white walls have gone and in their place are walls filled with mood and character.

Mixing dramatic furniture with pale neutral colours and using materials such as marble and velvet has added a real wow factor to lots of interiors over the past year and here at 55MAX we hope this look continues.

It's also been about flair and originality, with vintage pieces becoming incredibly popular. When it comes to working with vintage, the key is too add pieces which create a connection between the past and the present, whilst at the same time connecting to the rest of your house.

From finding one-off pieces that nobody else has, to achieving the look with items like our vintage movie posters, the possibilities are endless. Adding something that is unique and different to your designs is an easy way to put a personal stamp on it – it’s a refreshing way to separate your interior from others and make it stand out.

There has also been an increase in creating outdoor designs for inside the house. Outdoor scenic wallpaper has made a huge comeback this year and these bespoke designs are creating a real ‘wow’ factor when it comes to interiors.

It creates a look that is timeless and elegant and what's great is there are so many options to pick from. It really is one of the best ways to transform a room.

We wonder what will next year bring?
